Champaca, Halmaddi, and Sandalwood are the most basic ingredients of Nag Champa incense. These ingredients are native to India and Nepal, which strongly suggests that the Nag Champa incense formulation originated from these countries.

Halmaddi is a form of resin which is often incorporated into incense harvested from the Ailanthus Malabarica tree.  However, halmaddi has become rare and expensive, so sometimes people opt to use alternative tree resins such as those from pine and cedar. Supply for this material has dwindled and it is in danger of becoming extinct in the future due to the extreme demand for halmaddi resin, so we have chosen to use Frangipani flower essential oil, which is said to have a similar scent.

Frangipani (Plumeria alba) is the national flower of Laos, known as Dok Champa and a symbol of luck. Emotionally and energetically, Frangipani Oil is a wonderful choice to alleviate stress and depression because it can calm the mind and release negative emotions. Frangipani Absolute Oil also has a reputation for possessing aphrodisiac qualities.

Champaca, a golden magnolia flower also known as champak, has a distinguished floral scent. Champaca is the main flower oil used in traditional Nag Champa, but, over time, fragrant oils such as rose oils, orange blossoms, and ylang-ylang began being added to different Nag Champa blends. In our formulation, we have chosen to stay as true as possible to the original combination of three essences…Sandalwood, Champaca and Frangipani.

Champaca blossoms were and still are commonly used to make an “attar” - regarded as a holy fragrance - by distilling the oil from the flowers directly into a receiver containing Sandalwood Essential Oil. One of the world's most expensive perfumes oriental to French lines, such as famous Joy, Jadore (Dior), Euphoria CK, etc. contains Champaca Absolute among other exotic and highly prized floral notes.

Emotionally and energetically, the warm, woodsy, earthy aroma of Sandalwood Essential Oil is widely used to enhance mood and is frequently used in meditation for its grounding effects.
